Palacio de Cristal, Madrid
Palacio de Cristal, Madrid
Located in the El Retiro park in the centre of Madrid, the Palacio de Cristal was built in 1887 as a ‘Greenhouse for the City’. The first building in the country to have underfloor heating, in order to maintain a warm temperature all year round for the plants inside, the building is now a host to art exhibitions and provides a central point in the park to witness glorious sunsets such as this one. I often find it difficult to capture the beauty of a sunset in a photo, but I feel this one does it justice: The pastel hues in the sky, the fiery orange reflection in the water and the seeming stillness despite the fountain and crowd of people at the entrance all combining to produce a photo which I’m extremely proud of.
