Colosseum, Rome

Colosseum, Rome

A building that needs no introduction, the Colosseum in Rome is almost 2000 years old and really needs to be seen to be believed - it’s a stunning piece of architecture and it’s incredible that it’s still standing after all this time. I’ve wanted to photograph the Colosseum for a while and I was lucky that the sunset Gods were smiling on me when I visited it on a recent trip to Rome. I spent a good amount of time wandering around the structure, trying to find the best angle and viewpoint to capture if from. As the sun sank below the horizon, the orange hue from the sunlight creeping round the corner, contrasting against the green of the grass below and the silver-like quality of the stonework stood out for me. It’s an iconic and much photographed building for a reason and hopefully this photo does it some justice.
